Organic cotton suppliers in Portugal

Please, take in mind that in this article we are listing suppliers retails that work with small quantities orders of organic cotton. We know that is too hard to get small quantities when you are a sustainable fashion startup and are not working with big quantities.  Portugal is not growing organic cotton at the moment. According to the European Commission, only three Member States (Greece, Spain, and Bulgaria) are currently growing cotton in Europe. Portugal and Italy have stopped the production in 1996 and 1991. So below you will find retails of organic cotton, not producers.

 

Flexitex

Flexitex is located in São João da Madeira in Portugal. It was founded in 1964. This company stands out for its concern for the environment and local development. This concern translates into quality and environmental certifications, such as ISO 140001: 2004 and the investment in the continuous training of its workers.

In addition to organic cotton, the company offers other types of ecological and biodegradable materials, such as 100% natural bamboo fiber.

Vilartex

Vilartex is located in Guimarães. The company markets sustainable textiles for indoor and outdoor wear. It counts on the collaboration of 130 workers. It has 30,600 square meters of productive area and 101 circular looms. Among the certifications shared in their website are Oeko-Tex® of harmful substances verifications; the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS); the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) and Fair Trade.

Caracol

Caracol is a company specialized in the production of sustainable clothes and accessories for babies from 0 to 36 months. It owns own brand and also produces for customers with own brands. It offers pieces in 100% organic cotton. Caracol is located in Guimarães, Portugal.
